Teaching Children with Hearing Loss
to Listen and Talk
Assessment of Auditory Skills
In order to formulate short- and longer-term goals and strategies, we need to know a child's current level of auditory skills. This would tell us the extent of gaps or lags in different auditory skills, and where and how much we should focus our efforts. Such an assessment has to be ongoing, in order to provide us continual feedback on the effectiveness of our intervention. With such an approach, we will always know where we currently are, where we are going, and what we should do next.
- Learn the component and composite auditory skills we should assess.
- Learn how to use informal, criterion-referenced assessments for these auditory skills.
- Learn how to chart the skills on an auditory learning matrix to obtain a child's auditory skills profile
- Learn how to translate the auditory skills profile into immediate as well as annual goals.
- Earn ASHA CEUs (and LSLS hours)!
